Description
The Challenge
The Sahel region of West Africa has been devastated by a prolonged drought, leaving hundreds of thousands without access to clean water. In the remote village of Diafarabé, over 10,000 men, women, and children are forced to walk miles each day to collect water from contaminated sources, putting them at high risk of waterborne illness.
The lack of clean water has had a catastrophic impact on this already vulnerable community. Children are dropping out of school to help their families search for water, agricultural productivity has plummeted, and the continued spread of water-borne diseases like cholera and dysentery threatens to overwhelm the local health system.
Our Solution
CEMREST is urgently seeking funding to install a solar-powered water treatment and distribution system that will provide clean, reliable water access to the people of Diafarabé. This community-owned infrastructure project will:
Drill a deep borehole well to access a sustainable groundwater source
Set up a solar-powered water pumping and treatment system to purify the water
Construct a network of distribution pipes and kiosks to bring clean water directly to the village
By implementing this integrated water solution, we can restore dignity, health, and opportunity to the people of Diafarabé. Children will be able to return to school, families will no longer have to risk their safety searching for water, and the community’s agricultural production and economic resilience will be dramatically improved.
