Making A Difference

Providing Shelter

We passionate about offering not only immediate relief from the effects of poverty, but also the sustainable development necessary to build bridges out of it. Income generating projects such as food stores, goat breedingand savings and loans groups put power back into the hands of the community.

Handicap Care

We appeal to the population to put all hands on deck to end all forms of stigmatisation associated with people with disabilities. A society can only enjoy the endowments of physically challenged persons if it focus on what they can offer, as they do have a lot to offer to society.

Medical Facilities

Our  health objective seeks to empower women, youth and children to take informed control of their own health by increasing their access to better quality health provision. Promotion of adolescent health through school and college health clubs.

Water and Hygiene

With a large portion of Cameroonians still without easy access to safe drinking water, investing in a variety of water projects is a critical part of the work of CEMREST. Partnering with local government, CEMREST has provided tens of thousands of people with cleaner water. The recipients are also educated on how to improve hygiene and sanitation, both of which are integral to the development and success of these projects.

Functional Literacy Program

One of the objectives of CEMREST is to support formal and non-formal education for women and girls through enhancing inclusive education communities and functional literacy programs. The expected outcomes include increasing the number of women who have functional literacy and numeracy skills, and who are using them to generate income, engage in decision-making, improve their health, and support girls in education. All these will lead to better living standards and general community development. Interventions to succeed in this objective include:

Working in close collaboration with the Regional Delegation of Basic Education for the implementation of its programs and strategies.

Training and supporting community level functional literacy trainers to enhance the literacy skills of local women

Supporting these communities with the experts that will meet their needs at any point in time.

Using teaching methods that are modern and learner centered and which are appropriate for an adult audience.

Inclusive Education Program

In Cameroon and most African countries, If you try to enroll a disabled child in a mainstream school, more often than not he or she will not be accepted — and the school will say it cannot teach them. This is most often because of the inaccessible nature of the schools and classrooms and the lack of trained teachers. More than 90 per cents of schools in Cameroon have inaccessible classrooms and toilets. Most government offices and state buildings are inaccessible. This has contributed enormously in this discrimination and stigmatization of children with disability. At CEMREST we advocate that CHILDREN who are born with or who develop disabilities should not be separated out but put together with normal children under a system of inclusive education in mainstream schools. Children should not be denied the fundamental human right to an education justbecause they have congenital disabilities or are afflicted at a later stage. We are advocating an inclusive holistic education whereby children learned together instead of separately. Life skills should be taught in school, not just narrow academic skills. Inclusive learning is to encourage the teaching and learning of life skills.
