The Community Empowering Movement for a Responsive Society (CEMREST) is a Belgium-based non-profit organization founded in 2011 and officially registered in 2012.
We believe that to promote sustainable development, diverse and multiple actors need to collaborate to address the challenges faced by communities. These include individuals, civil society at the local, national, and global levels, governments （county and national), the private sector, and media, amongst others.
We believe that sustainable change is possible when communities are at the centre of their own development and in charge of finding solutions.
We believe that communities will attain an improved quality of life through recognizing and investing their resources. We believe that communities thrive where there is social justice and systems that support their prosperity.
We believe that communities have the ability to mitigate, adapt to and recover from shocks and stresses in a manner that reduces vulnerability. CEMREST works in partnership with communities to complement their efforts.
Building long-term assets and endowments that generate resources for the sustainability of community development initiatives.
Working through organised community groups and associations as vehicles to scale up desired changes.
Investing in the capacity strengthening of community organisations to scale up and sustain transformative change.
Encouraging the growth of community giving and shifting mindsets from dependency to independence for ownership and sustainability.
Fostering collaborative partnerships with like-minded organisations to jointly address complex development challenges.
Supporting communities to influence decision-making and policies for positive systemic change and quality service delivery.
Since our inception, our work has expanded across multiple sectors, including STEM education, healthcare, water and sanitation, food security, sustainable agriculture, technical and vocational training, livelihood development, disaster response, and climate change adaptation. We also champion good governance, women’s empowerment, child protection, the rights of ethnic minorities, and the strengthening of local institutions.
Community-based adaptation to climate change is a generally accepted concept which means community-led process based on communities’ priorities, needs, knowledge, and capacities, which should empower people to plan for and cope with the impacts of climate change.
We design and build environmentally friendly and financially affordable Water and Sanitation facilities for the poor in the very vulnerable communities in rural, peri-urban and inner cities in the Africa.
In CEMREST we strive for lifelong learning opportunities for all, from early childhood to adult education and equity, inclusion and gender equality; Ensuring effective learning and the acquisition of relevant knowledge, skills and competencies.
Domination gender in extractive industry, present key limitations for sustainable leadership opportunities and career growth for women at FOCEI we identify these existing barriers and addressing necessary actions to be taken to promote gender equality and reduced existing gap between male and female gender.
CEMREST realizes this fact and has been collaborating and partnering with various donors’ agencies and International Non-Governmental Organizations and striving hard to drive change at the grassroots in various communities.
At CEMREST we aspire to ensure health and well-being for all, including a bold commitment to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases by 2030. It also aims to achieve universal health coverage, and provide access to safe and effective medicines and vaccines for all.
We pride ourselves on the great work we’ve accomplished, and for good reason, the world has decided we are worth talking about. While we have done good work, it was not achieved through our own strength, but through the strength given to us by God. We will continue to serve the community faithfully.
